Raising a Tipi

We worked hard raising our Tipi at Lost Indian Camp. After placing our order with Nomatdics Tipi Makers we began preparing the land. This is the company that provided all the Tipis for the movie – “Dances with Wolves”.

Unfortunately the weather was not our friend. First we had many days of heavy rain. Secondly spring in the North Georgia mountains is very unpredictable. As well as the rain, we had many cold days and even saw snow! Therefore our timeline was delayed again and again. Finally the day had arrived and our Tipi was delivered. Now the real work was about to began. Have you ever played with Lincoln logs? We believe that Lincoln logs are a fun toy. However we were dealing with large heavy poles. Furthermore the poles have to be precisely placed. Afterward the canvas needs to be snug and secure. To say it was challenging is an understatement.

We are happy to share these photos. We hope you enjoy the exclusive behind the scenes construction photos. Each step was an adventure for us. The Process was pretty interesting, to say the least! Finally it was complete and ready for guests. At the end of the day, we wouldn’t trade it for the world. As we step back and look at our creation we are so very proud. Our hope is that you will come to Lost Indian Camp and unplug, relax and enjoy. After all, the Tipi is raised and all of the hard work is done!
